Carthage Main Street Announces 2026 Arts Walk of Fame Inductee: George Roy Hooker

Last Updated 12/5/2025

Carthage, Texas — December 4, 2025— Carthage Main Street is proud to announce that Panola County native George Roy Hooker has been selected as one of the 2026 inductees into the Carthage Main Street Arts Walk of Fame. The announcement was made earlier today, and Hooker will be officially inducted on February 20, 2026, at a special ceremony at the historic Esquire Theater. He will be inducted alongside the legendary Jim Reeves, and a commemorative plaque bearing his name will be installed in the downtown sidewalk as part of the permanent Arts Walk of Fame.

Hooker, a lifelong artist and creative professional, has deep roots in the Woods Community. His great-grandfather built the family farmhouse in 1917 on a 300-acre homestead—a home that has now housed four generations of the Hooker family. After a worldwide career in graphic design, animation, film production, and creative direction, Hooker returned home in 2020 to restore the farmhouse he grew up in. His restoration, now called Farmhaüs, has been widely admired as a masterwork of imagination, craftsmanship, and historical preservation—a living gallery of creativity and family heritage.

A graduate of Carthage High School, Hooker’s artistic talents were recognized early. He designed the Carthage High School Band logo that remained in use for decades and created artwork celebrating the Bulldog baseball team’s state championship. His interest in filmmaking also began in his school years, often seen carrying a video camera and producing short films with friends.

Hooker went on to study at the Art Institute of Dallas and later earned a film degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. His professional career has included work with Silver Rock Productions in Houston, Alonestar Productions in Austin, and ultimately his own company, GHM Creative, producing television commercials and content that took him from Alaska to Australia, Iceland to Barcelona, and across the United States, Europe, and Central and South America. He later relocated the company to Dallas to accommodate constant travel for work with national clients, including networks such as RFD-TV.

When the COVID-19 pandemic began and his father entered assisted living, Hooker made the decision to come home and fully restore the family house. The project quickly became a personal artistic culmination—preserving original beadboard walls and ceilings, uncovering historical details, and blending modern creativity with timeless craftsmanship. Friends, community members, and former teachers describe the restored home as an extraordinary expression of Hooker’s lifelong dedication to the arts.

Carthage Main Street’s Arts Walk of Fame honors individuals with significant ties to Carthage whose influence in the arts has enriched both the local community and broader culture. Hooker’s induction recognizes not only his professional accomplishments but also his commitment to preserving and celebrating the creative spirit of Panola County.

The public is invited to attend the Arts Walk of Fame Induction Ceremony on February 20, 2026, at the Esquire Theater, where George Roy Hooker and Jim Reeves will be formally honored.
